I will also be heading to the track this friday and will see what tires some of the other racers are using, will also post if i make any changes to my truck.
Heres a video of the track if your intrested: YouTube - I ran your setup with 35wt oil front and orange Losi Springs with you same shock locations.
Trcuk feels a little soft for me in the rear and on the track. I think if I just go to 35wt rear it will be about perfect. Truck is pretty good but don't have much high speed steering. Still working on my steering to get more steering throw. Need to look at a few things tonight as I might not have my Proline Steering rack as tight as I need to. Are track has a ton of bite so might go back to the stock Proline rear hubs next time I run as well.
Overall a nice place to start with my new Traxxas Big Bore aluminum shocks. So i headed to the track today and they were rebuilding the outdoor track so i decided to wait on some new tires, So i was stuck on the indoor track.
The setup i described in my first post worked very well on the indoor track it just needed a little more steering and some thicker oil. After the day i bought some 35 weight shock oil as well as 40 weight.
I plan to add the 40 weight shock oil to the rear and put the 35 on the front. Not exactly sure yet. I also picked up some losi velcro battery straps for my strc kit im sick of takeing those little pins out:evil: And do any of u guys have any tips on some better steering? I have adjusted the proline servo saver as well as have my battery positioned all the way forward, anyother tips would be helpfull. Use a hex screwdriver to open the wire clamp and receiver box.
Unplug the ESC from the second slot of the receiver. Route the connector with the receiver box. Then plug it into the second slot of the receiver. Close the wire clamp and receiver box and screw the boxes tightly. In this step, take off the back right wheel, then remove the gear cover.
Take out the original spur and motor. Now, install the pinion gear and the spur gear. Use a gearing adaptor to do this smoothly. Select your ideal gear adapter according to the model of your car. Now, secure the gears by screwing them tightly and put the motor back. Put back the gear cover over the gear and reattach the wheel. Connect the motor wire to the ESC using the color-coded wire.
After changing the gear, open the battery compartment of the car. Take out the old battery, and insert the fully charged battery inside. Put the battery with the wires facing the rear of the car. Now, insert the tabs of the battery into the slots in the rear. Then adjust the battery hold down over the post of the car.
Secure the position and plug in the battery. Fill the front and rear shocks with 50wt and 60wt shock fluid oil respectively. As the front end of your Traxxas is lightweight, it balances out the overall area of the car. It also keeps the frame of the car to a minimum roll. Set the base front camber of the car to It means the angular point of the tires toward the car frame should be 2.
This angle gives a better performance when you take a turning on the track. Next, set the base rear camber at The rear camber will keep shifting during the suspension arms move through the full range. Make these changes depending on the amount of traction needed for the race track condition.
Make sure the alignment of the two sides is balanced. Since everyone has the same amount of horsepower in a stock-Slash race, a well-sorted suspension system with dialed-in shocks is the single biggest advantage you can give your machine on the racetrack.
Damping Oil Viscosity The Slash arrives with 30wt oil in the shocks, which delivers relatively light damping for a very active suspension that respond quickly to bumps. Since most tracks have carefully prepared surfaces that are relatively smooth or very smooth, or even carpeted , the shocks can be filled with higher-viscosity thicker oil to increase damping.
Recommended Setting: 50wt. If you experience packing, refill the shocks with lower viscosity oil. The X shock oil set with carousel rack is an indispensable accessory for Slash suspension tuning.
For detailed shock-filling instructions, watch this Traxxas Support video. Ride height is the distance between the chassis and the running surface when the model is at rest. The Slash allows you to adjust ride height by placing spacers above the spring retainer.
Beyond that, adding spacers or threading the collar farther down the shock body only serves to raise the ride height. Recommended Setting: Arms level front ; shafts level rear. Tuning Notes Set ride height with the battery installed, and give the chassis a bounce or two to make sure the truck is settled on the suspension when checking your settings.
Ride height will change with battery weight a heavy battery will lower ride height, a lighter battery will raise it. This helps improve steering response, and counteracts the tendency for the chassis to lean back and shift weight rearward under acceleration. The Slash includes preload spacers in four thicknesses. Install spacers above the springs to increase ride height.
The position of the shocks on the suspension arms determines two things: 1 The amount of leverage the arms apply to the shocks when the wheels hit bumps and lands off of jumps. This can improve handling on smoother, higher-grip tracks. Moving the shocks toward the chassis has the opposite effect: the suspension becomes softer, and down travel is increased—better for rougher, looser tracks.
Toe Tuning Notes: Front toe is a very useful setting for altering steering feel. Increasing toe-in will generally improve straight-line stability and make turn-in less aggressive. Reducing toe-in has the opposite effect. Toe-out settings deliver very responsive steering at the expense of stability. Camber Tuning Notes: When cornering, the wheels on the outside of the turn tend to lean away from the chassis, reducing their footprint and traction.
Negative camber angles counteract this. Alter your camber angles 0. A gauge makes it easy to set camber angle precisely. Click here for a full-size image of the gauge shown.
