TRS Cable into my existing pedalboard. Hey All I want to run some of my soft-synths line level through my pedalboard which is all wired with TS patch cables. Assuming all my pedals support TRS If so what's worst case? Arthur Stone. My Studio. Hi fullyjosh and welcome to Gearslutz Worst case is that the input line level signal will overwhelm the pedalboard input which is probably expecting an instrument level; this might cause noise and clipping but shouldn't damage you gear.
There are a few ways of gain-staging the signal down to an appropriate level e. I'm expecting to readjust some levels on the pedals and what not, just wanted to make sure I wasn't degrading my audio quality. I was just doing some more research and I saw that my interface using "inserts" which are TRS Tip Send, Ring Receive so these would be unbalanced anyway? Yes, likely unbalanced. You could use a 'Y cable' TRS to 2x TS to connect the interface insert and pedalboard; in addition to gain-staging also worth thinking about impedance e.

DI with line level output? Can anyone recommend some affordable DI boxes that have balanced line level output? I just need to balance line level, I don't need to change the level and definitely don't want mic level output.
Input will be line level also. I'm trying to send the output from a Vox Tonelab LE through a snake to a backline rack. The snake is only about 30 feet and maybe I will just send unbalanced, but I would prefer balanced. I also need to make sure the ground will not be lifted cause the Tonelab seems to need it for some reason to work properly. I can't think of one. I've done the experiment, and unless the stage is very noisy, just using a good buffer before the snake will successfully push the signal thru a 30' cable with no loss.
Both have to be passive. Ah so that's what they mean when they talk about using passive DI's "backwards". Got it. I did find one last night from Whirlwind, the "ISO1" which might do the trick.
